When I visited First Agro Farm in Mysore, its founder Nameet uncle mentioned about farmers and farming practices. He is an ex-army officer who has come up with his own farm. While explaining his journey he mentioned about Lal Bahadur Shastri and his slogan, ‘’JAI JAWAN JAI KISAN’’. I was so impressed soI thought of writing about Lal Bahadur Shastri today for the famous slogan he had given. ‘’JAI JAWAN JAI KISAN’’. (‘’Hail to the Soldier, Hail to the Farmer”).
Lal Bahadur Shastri name is associated with white Revolution & Green revolution in our country. He led the country during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. His slogan "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" ("Hail to the soldier; Hail to the farmer") became very popular during the war. Under his leadership, India faced and repulsed the Pakistani invasion of 1965. It is not only a matter of pride for the Indian Army but also for every citizen of the country. His slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kisan reverberates even today through the length and breadth of the country. The war of 1965 was fought and won for our self-respect and our national prestige.
When In 1965, India was attacked by Pakistan, there was scarcity of food grains in the country. Shastri gave the slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kisan to enthuse the soldiers to defend India and simultaneously cheering farmers to do their best to increase the production of food grains and to reduce dependence on the imported food grains. It became a very popular slogan.
He has left an indelible impression on our collective life. He was near and dear with common man in India. He was looked upon by Indians as one of their own, one who shared their ideals, hopes and inspirations.
For using our Defence Forces with such admirable skill, the nation remains beholden to Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. He will be remembered for all times to come for his simplicity, large heartedness and public service.
